The 4-H Embryology Program is a hands-on science project that aligns with the second-grade (*) standard course of study for North Carolina. The program goal is to teach the stages of embryo development and growth from early fertilization through hatching of chicks. Program is free, but supplies are limited, so please register.

(*)Program can be done with all classrooms as teacher requests- we have curricula that can expand to higher grades as applicable. 
  • Session 3: Registration Deadline is January 2nd
  • Session 4: Registration Deadline is January 30th
  • Session 5: Registration Deadline is April 13th

NC 4-H offers teachers & homeschool families a chance to purchase NC 4-H Curricula & Books.  We do offer teacher training on these topics/curricula where this curricula and some supplies will be provided to you (FREE) during the time needed to teach in your classroom!  If interested, contact us---your local 4-H staff!

The North Carolina 4-H Curricula are subject to copyright and cannot be used or distributed without North Carolina 4-H’s permission. However, the 4-H Curricula can be used for free when working with your local N.C. Cooperative Extension.

If you see a 4-H curriculum that would benefit your NC classroom, reach out to your local 4-H Agent. Your 4-H agent can work with you to understand how to best use the 4-H curriculum, and to get involved locally with additional 4-H education programming.

What Is Provided

All equipment is provided: Hatching Eggs, Incubator, Brooder Kit, Feed and Bedding for Chicks, Pick up and Drop off of all items. Access to 4-H Professional.

What Happens to the Chicks

Edgecombe County 4-H works one on one with a number of our local farms to provide the best forever farm for our chicks and support our local farms.

Is There a Cost

No, this is a free program that we are able to offer due to our generous donors. We do ask our teachers to fill out the evaluation form at the end of the program. There is a $20 cleaning fee if equipment isn’t clean when picked up.
