Meet Our New Community & Rural Development Agribusiness Extension Agent - Erika Love

Hi, I'm Erika Love, the new Community and Rural Development Agribusiness Agent. With backgrounds in both Education and Agribusiness Management, I'm passionate about helping people better understand the role agriculture plays in their everyday lives.

Prior to joining Edgecombe County Extension, I worked as an educator and 4-H Program Assistant, where I discovered a love for creating engaging programs and connecting people with new learning opportunities. I am especially interested in agritourism, agricultural literacy, and finding ways to strengthen communities through meaningful experiences and education.

I also have a heart for service and community involvement. I previously ran the Roanoke Valley Distinguished Young Woman scholarship program and I'm eager to begin my new role on the DYW State Committee soon. Furthermore, I'm excited to learn more about Edgecombe County, build relationships throughout the community, and develop programs that bring people together while supporting local agriculture and economic growth.

Meet Our New Livestock Extension Agent - Cassie Peters

Originally from Pennsylvania, I attended Penn State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. During my schooling, I worked at a research hog farm, an experience I enjoyed so much that I moved to North Carolina to continue working with pigs.  Joining  Smithfield, I got the opportunity to do outreach and education while also volunteering with the NC Pork Council. I enjoy staying involved in my community and currently serve on the Friends of Sylvan Heights Board, as well as the Tarboro Choral Society Board. I am excited to use my knowledge and experience to help growers and educate the public here in Edgecombe County.
