Description:

An 8 session Take Control Program to start on Thursday’s January 9th  from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.

Taking Steps to Health

North Carolina has a weight problem.  Almost two-thirds of the adults in our state are overweight. Our children are not immune to the epidemic; at least one in four adolescents in North Carolina are overweight or obese.  Excess weight is a risk factor for several serious conditions including coronary heart disease, stroke, type II diabetes and certain forms of cancer.

Even with good intentions, many people often struggle to find time to be physically active or to figure out how to eat healthy without breaking the bank. As your Martin County Cooperative Extension Agent, my role is to work with the citizens and families of our community to become healthier.

Starting on January 9, 2020, I will be offering a series of free classes as part of the Steps to Health program.  These free classes cover healthy eating, being active, and making the most of your food dollar. Participants should plan on having fun and sampling delicious recipes.

If you or someone you know is interested in attending the Steps to Health program, please call 252-789-4370 for more information.

Steps to Health is a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) program developed and administered by North Carolina State University and federally funded through the USDA.
