Tyrone Fisher has been named as NC State University’s North Central District Extension Director, effective March 1. Fisher, who has worked with NC State for 26 years, has held the position on an interim basis since June 2022. He will continue to provide leadership for NC State’s Extension directors, agents and specialists in the district that encompasses 20 counties from central North Carolina to the Appalachian Mountains, ranging from urban to rural.
“I am pleased to confirm Tyrone into this important leadership position,” said Richard Bonanno, NC State Extension director. “He is highly qualified and understands the needs of the communities within the district. I am confident in his ability to further the mission of Extension and to do whatever it takes to help the people of North Carolina.”
Extension organizes its 101 local centers into five districts, each under the leadership of a director. Extension staff and volunteers in each district support agriculture, horticulture, conservation and environmental protection, nutrition and health, 4-H youth development programs, and a variety of other consumer, youth and economic concerns across North Carolina.
Fisher holds an animal science degree from Southern A&M University and an agricultural sciences-animal science degree from Colorado State University. He began working with NC State in August 1996 as the Extension livestock agent in Northampton County. He also has served as the livestock agent in Wake County; area specialized agent for livestock in Harnett, Lee, and Cumberland counties; interim county director in Franklin County; and as country director in Warren, Harnett and Orange counties.
