The NC Agromedicine Institute will be offering to schedule a fit testing for respirators event on Tuesday, February 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Nash County Agriculture Center in Nashville. More products, such as Gramoxone, will require the use of a respirator and fit-test documentation. Please e-mail Kelsey_Lichtenwalner@ncsu.edu to sign up to attend this event to schedule a time.
Medical clearance must be obtained prior to fit testing by each one desiring to be fit tested. Clearance can be obtained via one of the three links below.
There is a charge for process by the organization providing the clearance. Clearance is usually provided or denied within 24 hours of completing the form. Farmers must turn in their Medical Clearance Forms to Kelsey Lichtenwalner by Friday, February 9th.
Farmer must bring the medical clearance form from the online provider with them when they come to be fit tested. (The provider they chose from the links above)
*Completion of Institute medical clearance form.
Bring this form with you when you attend class.
The cost for Medical Clearance and Fit Testing through the Institute is $35 per person. If online medical clearance is obtained, then the cost of fit testing is $25 per person made payable to ECU NC Agromedicine Institute
During the fit testing, we check blood pressure, height, weight. We perform spirometry which measures lung function. Then we perform the actual fit testing. The goal is to make sure all our farmers are medically safe to use a respirator.
If the person requesting fit testing has a respirator, they must bring it with them (filters incuded). Please have them make sure filters/cartridges can be obtained for that respirator. Current WPS regulations state filters/cartridges must be replaced after every 8 hours of cumulative use.
